API Opens New Delhi Office to Enhance Collaboration in India's Energy Sector

The American Petroleum Institute (API) is opening its first physical representative office in New Delhi, India. This strategic move aims to deepen API's engagement with India's rapidly expanding energy sector, the world's third-largest consumer. The office will facilitate closer collaboration with policymakers, industry, and academia to accelerate the adoption of global standards, enhance operational safety, and modernize India's energy infrastructure. API seeks to support India's energy transition, improve compliance, and ensure international alignment in crucial areas.

The American Petroleum Institute (API) is establishing its inaugural physical representative office in New Delhi, India, signifying a major initiative to bolster its involvement with the nation's burgeoning energy industry. This expansion aligns with India's status as the world's third-largest energy consumer and ongoing discussions around a proposed US–India trade deal, creating fertile ground for enhanced cooperation in standards, safety, and infrastructure development. Although API's widely recognized standards and certifications have long been utilized across India's oil, gas, and energy sectors, this new office provides a direct local presence.Strategically located in New Delhi, the office aims to foster closer ties with key Indian stakeholders, including government agencies, public sector undertakings (PSUs), manufacturers, and academic institutions. API's objective is to accelerate coordination, improve adherence to global best practices, and contribute to the modernization of India's energy infrastructure. Anchal Liddar, Senior Vice President, Global Industry Services at API, emphasized that India's rapid energy transformation necessitates deeper collaboration and internationally harmonized standards. She highlighted API's technical expertise and global experience as crucial assets for upgrading infrastructure, strengthening safety frameworks, and standardizing practices within India.
