Delhi CM Vows Justice After Racial Harassment Against Northeast Women, Promises to Meet Victims

In a video message, Gupta asserted that the dignity, respect, and safety of every individual in the capital, including residents from the Northeast who contribute significantly to the city, must be upheld. She made it clear that discrimination and misconduct would not be tolerated, promising strict action against those responsible.Gupta further announced her intention to personally meet the affected women to offer support and listen to their concerns. Her team will also engage with the broader Northeast community in Delhi to gain a deeper understanding of the challenges they face and to explore effective policy measures aimed at enhancing their safety and sense of belonging. In response to the incident, Delhi Police have arrested a couple and registered an FIR at Malviya Nagar Police Station. The charges include criminal intimidation, insulting the modesty of a woman, and promoting enmity between groups, with relevant provisions of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act also invoked in the investigation. This incident and the Chief Minister's strong stance have brought renewed national attention to the critical issues of discrimination and the urgent need for robust protections for people hailing from India’s Northeast region.
