The highly anticipated India-Pakistan T20 World Cup fixture, scheduled for February 15 in Colombo, is back on after the Pakistan government withdrew its boycott call. This significant reversal came after intensive multilateral discussions and direct appeals from friendly nations, particularly Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. Bangladesh Cricket Board chief Aminul Islam and Sri Lanka President Anura Kumara Dissanayake played crucial roles in persuading Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and the government, emphasizing the greater good of cricket.Initially, Bangladesh was ousted from the tournament due to security concerns over playing in India. However, the ICC has now stated it will not impose any financial, sporting, or administrative penalties on the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). Furthermore, the ICC agreed to award Bangladesh the hosting rights for a global event between 2028 and 2031, and is considering them for the next men’s Under-19 World Cup, aiming to offset losses incurred by the BCB.Pakistan Cricket Board chief Mohsin Naqvi had also presented demands to ICC deputy chair Imran Khawaja, including the resumption of Indo-Pak bilateral cricket and a tri-series involving Bangladesh. While bilateral cricket remains outside the ICC's purview, the tri-series request was rejected. The resolution ends a period of uncertainty that overshadowed the tournament, protecting the spirit and continuity of the global sport.
