Kumho Petrochemical is proactively addressing widening market uncertainties and a prolonged supply glut within the global petrochemical industry by focusing on a high value-added business structure. The company's strategy involves meticulously analyzing market conditions to balance profitability with growth, transforming current challenges into new opportunities.A core initiative includes bolstering the competitiveness of its flagship unit, Kumho Petrochemical, in solution styrene butadiene rubber (SSBR). This high-performance synthetic rubber is crucial for improving tire wear resistance and fuel efficiency, making it particularly suitable for electric vehicle tires, which demand greater durability due to heavier batteries and frequent acceleration/braking. Last year, Kumho Petrochemical significantly increased its annual SSBR production capacity by 35,000 tons, with new lines commencing commercial operation this quarter, enhancing its position in specialty products.Furthermore, its joint venture, Kumho Mitsui Chemicals, is expanding its annual methylene diphenyl diisocyanate (MDI) production capacity by 100,000 tons, building on a previous 200,000-ton increase in 2024. This project aims to maximize cost efficiency and investment returns, solidifying the company’s global leadership in the MDI market. Kumho Polychem, another subsidiary, also completed an expansion last year, boosting its ethylene propylene diene monomer (EPDM) production capacity by 70,000 tons, reaching a total output of 310,000 tons. EPDM, a high-performance synthetic rubber, is widely utilized in automotive, maritime, and industrial applications due to its superior resistance to heat, weather, and chemicals. In parallel, Kumho P&B Chemicals is expanding its presence in the Middle East and Europe for industrial raw materials, ensuring stable sales through major client deals. Additionally, D&K Chemtech, a joint venture specializing in phenolic foam boards, has secured crucial environmental certifications, including low-carbon accreditation for its core materials, thereby strengthening its competitive edge in the eco-friendly construction materials market. These comprehensive efforts underscore Kumho Petrochemical's commitment to strategic diversification and innovation in advanced materials.
