Massive IndiGo Flight Cancellations Cripple Air Travel Across India

Massive IndiGo flight cancellations continue to severely disrupt air travel across India, with over 400 flights cancelled nationwide. Delhi's IGI Airport was most affected, reporting 152 IndiGo cancellations. Significant disruptions also occurred in Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, and Mumbai. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has directed IndiGo to reduce its flight operations by 5% due to inefficient winter schedule management and a backlog of cancellations, seeking a revised schedule by December 10, 2025.

IndiGo continues to face a significant crisis with massive flight cancellations disrupting air travel across India, affecting hundreds of passengers on Tuesday. Airport authorities reported over 400 cancellations nationwide. Delhi's Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport bore the brunt, confirming 152 IndiGo flights cancelled, evenly split between 76 arrivals and 76 departures. Other major airports also experienced substantial disruptions: Bengaluru's Kempegowda International Airport saw 121 cancellations, Chennai reported 41, Hyderabad's Rajiv Gandhi International Airport had 58, and Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport recorded 31. Ahmedabad and Patna also faced cancellations, while Thiruvananthapuram recorded relatively fewer disruptions.In response, Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu assured that flight operations were stabilising, emphasizing that safety remains non-negotiable. He noted IndiGo operated 1,800 flights yesterday, a significant improvement from 706 on December 5. Earlier, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) intervened, directing IndiGo to reduce its flight operations by 5% across sectors. This directive stems from the airline's failure to efficiently execute its winter schedule and a substantial backlog of cancellations. IndiGo has been instructed to submit a revised schedule by 5 PM on December 10, 2025. Official data revealed IndiGo operated only 59,438 out of 64,346 approved flights in November 2025, with 951 cancellations recorded during that month.
