North India Weather Update: Snow in Hills, Rising Plains Temperatures, and Persistent Fog Expected

A fresh Western Disturbance will bring snow and rain to the Western Himalayan belt, including Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand, from February 9, 2026. While mountain regions brace for intense weather, northern plains will see a gradual rise in minimum temperatures, and Delhi will remain stable. Dense fog conditions are expected to persist in parts of Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and other northern regions, posing hazards for commuters and travelers. The India Meteorological Department advises caution.

Northern India is set to experience diverse weather patterns as a fresh Western Disturbance approaches, bringing significant changes from February 9, 2026. High-altitude regions, particularly Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Muzaffarabad, are forecast to receive isolated to scattered rain and snowfall starting this date. The wet weather will extend to Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand between February 9 and 11, with February 10 potentially seeing more intense conditions including thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds up to 30-40 km/h in higher areas.Concurrently, the northern plains will experience a shift away from the deep winter chill. Minimum temperatures across Northwest India are projected to gradually increase by approximately 2°C over the next two days. Central India will also warm up moderately, with temperatures climbing 2-4°C. Delhi and the National Capital Region are expected to maintain stable daytime highs ranging between 23°C and 26°C. Despite the warming trend, dense to very dense fog will continue to affect isolated pockets of Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand during early mornings and nights until February 10, significantly reducing visibility in cities like Bareilly and Gorakhpur. Similar low visibility conditions are also anticipated in northern Tamil Nadu, Bihar, and parts of Northeast India until February 9. The India Meteorological Department advises both travelers heading to the hills and daily commuters to exercise extra caution due to potentially slippery mountain roads and hazardous foggy conditions.
