Saint-Gobain Expands Indonesian Construction Chemicals Business with Indocement JV
Saint-Gobain has formed a joint venture with Indocement Tunggal Prakarsa to strengthen its construction chemicals presence in Indonesia. Saint-Gobain will hold 60% of the new entity, which is acquiring Indocement’s Tiga Roda mortars business. This move combines Saint-Gobain’s technical expertise and Cipta Mortar Utama operations with Indocement’s local market knowledge, enhancing product offerings, expanding geographic reach, and accelerating growth in Indonesia’s high-growth mortars sector.
Saint-Gobain has significantly bolstered its position in Indonesia’s construction chemicals market through the formation of a joint venture (JV) with a subsidiary of Indocement Tunggal Prakarsa, an Indonesian cement company partially owned by Heidelberg Materials. Saint-Gobain will hold a 60% stake in the new entity, which is set to acquire Indocement’s established mortars business, operating under the Tiga Roda brand. This acquisition strategically enhances Saint-Gobain’s footprint in the region, leveraging the Tiga Roda business's three production lines and estimated €20 million in sales by 2025. The Tiga Roda brand specializes in white skim coat, which complements Saint-Gobain’s existing Cipta Mortar Utama (CMU) operations, already a leader in the Indonesian mortars market with a broad product portfolio and extensive sales network.Saint-Gobain, having operated in Indonesia since 1995 with 14 production lines and 1,300 employees, aims to capitalize on the complementary strengths of both partners. The JV will combine Saint-Gobain’s technical expertise and CMU’s market leadership with Indocement’s local market insights and cement manufacturing capabilities. This synergistic approach is expected to accelerate growth, expand market penetration, and deepen customer engagement within Indonesia’s promising mortars sector. The strategic move is consistent with Saint-Gobain’s “Lead & Grow” plan, reinforcing its global strategy to strengthen its presence in construction chemicals, particularly in high-growth markets like Indonesia, through strategic partnerships and market consolidation.
