UGC Identifies 32 Fake Universities Across India, Delhi Tops List with 12

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has released a list of 32 fake universities operating across 12 Indian states, an increase from 20 two years ago. Delhi leads the list with 12 such institutions. The UGC strongly advises students to exercise caution and avoid admissions to unrecognised universities, which unlawfully offer degrees, thereby jeopardizing students' academic and career prospects. New states like Haryana and Rajasthan are also on the expanded list.

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has issued a significant notification detailing 32 fake universities identified across 12 states in India, raising serious concerns about student safety and the credibility of higher education. This number reflects an increase from 20 fake universities two years ago, indicating a growing problem. Delhi tops the list with 12 unapproved institutions, including names like World Peace of United Nations University and Adhyatmik Vishwavidyalaya. Other states with fake universities include Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Kerala, West Bengal, Puducherry, Andhra Pradesh, and Karnataka. The list also now includes states such as Haryana, Rajasthan, Jharkhand, and Arunachal Pradesh. The UGC has specifically cautioned against the Global Human Peace University in Karnataka, stating it is not authorised to operate. Students and parents are advised to be extremely cautious and avoid taking admission in institutions not recognised under the UGC Act, as they lack the authority to award valid degrees. The UGC emphasizes that these institutions mislead students, putting their academic and career futures at significant risk, and urges students to verify official lists of recognised universities on its website before applying for admissions.
